How does the treatment work?

Microdermabrasion can be used to treat any part of the body, but is typically performed on the face, neck, décolleté, and sometimes the hands. Once the skin has been thoroughly cleansed, the exfoliation process may begin. One of our trained professionals will use a hand-piece to debride the surface of the skin with a flow of aluminum oxide crystals. This process gently removes the upper layer of skin cells, leaving new skin cells and resulting in a more youthful appearance. This promotes the growth of new skin cells and collagen regeneration. Microdermabrasion is quick and virtually painless. Each treatment is followed by a hydrating mask, and an application of sunscreen.

A series of three to six treatments is recommended to achieve optimal results (series discount pricing is available), followed by maintenance treatments every couple months. After only one session, the treated area will look radiant and much smoother. After several sessions, the effects will be most apparent; fine lines and small wrinkles will be less visible as will pigment spots. A mild pinkness or flushing may occur in the treated area, but this will disappear within a few hours.

What are the advantages of microdermabrasion?

A major advantage of microdermabrasion, compared to other methods, is that specific troublesome areas like linear scars, acne scars, and hyperpigmented areas may be directly treated. The professional provider is able to control the process, choosing the exact area to be treated, as well as the depth and duration of the treatment. During each treatment the tissues are gently smoothed until the desired abrasion level is achieved. Microdermabrasion cannot remove deep scars or broken blood vessels, improve lax skin, or change pore size.

Aluminum oxide crystals are ideal for this type of treatment because they do not cause harmful side effects or allergic skin reactions.  Aluminum oxide crystals are clear of impurities such as silica and zinc, plus they have a bactericidal property which is good for treating acne. They don't chemically interact and are not absorbed by the skin.
